In 1905, long before New York City was laced with expressways, parkways and highways, Frank Lombardi, a native of Maddolone, Italy, saw the need for inexpensive transportation by local residents of Staten Island. The Island, annexed as one of the 5 Boroughs of New York City just 16 years earlier, was a fast growing area of America’s largest city.
