The XL883N model, dubbed Iron 883 is an all-black bike, with powder-coated engine, black rocker covers, black fenders and black everything, save for the nicely-contrasting exhausts. Even the drag-style handlebar is black, and everything accounts for the mean look of the machine.
The Iron 883 is moved by an Evolution engine, H-D fans call the Blockhead, derived from the older Shovelhead and Ironhead power units. The engine is air-cooled and Harley-Davidson claim it is virtually indestructible, especially with all the performance boost brought in by the new electronic fuel injection.
A nice treat comes from the self-cancelling turn signals which are based on speed and angle, so goodbye riding 2 miles with a blinker on. The 2013 Harley-Davidson Iron 883 has been made for solo riding, so there’s no standard pillion seat. Mid-mounted controls and an overall comfortable position make the 2013 Harley-Davidson Iron 883 fit for longer trips, like it is fit for prowling the city areas.
